A Prayer Poem For Lent

© Marsha Williams

O Lord God look upon Your creation

Within these walls and this congregation.

You who sit upon the Mercy Seat,

You Lord alone, are our great High Priest.

You who have said we must confess and repent

Grant us, by grace, the will and the strength.

May we have godly sorrow for missing the mark

And with mouths open wide, confess with whole heart.

Let us run to you Lord, to Your arms open wide;

Unlike Eve and Adam, who from You sought to hide.

For in coming to You, You can give us a plan;

A path to follow; help us understand.

For You are our wisdom, The Way, Truth and Life

Intercede, O High Priest, to help set us aright.

For confession is made unto eternal salvation

Which saves us all from Your just condemnation.

And once we are saved, let us do what we must

To continually pray, and in You put our trust.

Help us, O Lord, risk the life we might choose

To find life in You, which we cannot  lose.
